  • The Bridgestone Blizzak LM001 reflects the world’s second-largest, Japan-based tire manufacturer's cutting-edge innovation and technology. This tire is designed for use on coupes, sedans, and sports cars, and offers excellent performance in winter by providing superior grip and control. With a bunch of advanced technologies, Bridgestone has optimized this tire to perform on dry, wet, icy, slushy, and snowy roads.

In this Bridgestone Blizzak LM001 tire review, let’s do a detailed analysis and find out if these technologies really make an impact on the performance and if there’s enough potential in this winter tire to provide excellent traction, grip, comfort, and longer tread life.

    Features and Benefits

The Bridgestone Blizzak LM001 has all the good qualities that a standard winter tire must have. The tire is built using a flexible rubber compound and provides excellent grip when the temperature drops below 45 degrees Fahrenheit, but it is one of those winter tires that comes with a studless tread pattern. Let’s have a look at the technologies and features of this tire that promote exceptional performance in winter weather conditions:

    • Excellent winter performance – The Blizzak LM001 features an optimized winter weather compound and a directional tread pattern that boost grip on icy and snowy surfaces. The compound maintains flexibility in colder temperatures to provide optimum winter performance. The 3D sipes of the tire provide a number of biting edges to establish better contact with the road. Moreover, it is Three Peak Mountain Snowflake certified, which signifies its capability in severe winter weather conditions.
    • Superior braking performance – The detailed siping elements on the tread and sturdy silica-rich rubber compound ensure responsive braking and provide the last-minute grip that’s required to reduce the braking distance, thus promoting confident driving.
    • Enhanced handling, stability, steering, and cornering – The Blizzak LM001’s directional tread pattern is engineered to provide excellent steering response and driving stability, thus enhancing the overall handling of the vehicle. The 3D sipes offer enhanced cornering and handling on both wet as well as dry surfaces. Additionally, the rounded corners also enhance the cornering and maneuverability.
    • Improved wet weather performance – Thanks to the round corner junctions and vari-width grooves, the tire efficiently removes water and slush from the tread area to ensure optimum hydroplaning resistance and provide a better grip while driving in wet areas during the winter season.
    • Raised comfort levels – The tread elements of the Blizzak LM001 are optimized to absorb the driving shock when the tires are rolling and reduce the vibrations that are passed to the cabin, thus assuring comfortable and pleasing drives.
    • Longer tread life – The Blizzak LM001 is optimized for longevity. Its durable tread compound and reinforced internal structure ensure that the tire doesn’t lose its shape in the long run. The tread durability along with advanced tread pattern design promotes even and longer wear.

The Blizzak LM001 is available in 16- to 20-inch rim sizes, which makes it compatible with most coupes, sedans, and sports cars. That being said, the Blizzak LM001 is not backed by any limited manufacturer tread life warranty.

    Pros and Cons

With all the best features of the Bridgestone Blizzak LM001 discussed, let’s move on to learning the positives and negatives of this tire for better understanding. So, here’re the positives of this winter tire:

    • Provides better traction on snow and ice than most of its competitors.
    • Excellent wet weather performance.
    • Offers more comfortable rides than its counterparts.
    • Impressive handling and cornering skills in wintry conditions.
    • More durable than most of its rivals.

Not all tires are perfect and the same is the case with the Blizzak LM001. While it does surprise with many of its stunning capabilities, there are certain negatives that buyers must not ignore:

    • In terms of longevity, peers surpass this tire.
    • Cannot be used when temperatures are consistently above 45 degrees Fahrenheit
    • Doesn’t come with any manufacturer tread life warranty.
    • More expensive than some of its competitors.
    • Higher noise levels might spoil the riding experience.

SimpleTire’s view on Bridgestone Blizzak LM001 tires

The Bridgestone Blizzak LM001 is a high-quality winter tire that’s good for those who need tires that are exceptionally great in terms of winter performance and offer commendable grip on snow and ice. It doesn’t disappoint in wet conditions and its handling and cornering skills are applaudable, especially in wintry conditions. Overall, the tire is durable enough to avoid the chances of deformation in the long run, but do not expect that its tread will serve you for a very long time. Buyers might turn down the Blizzak LM001 because it is not offered with any tread life warranty and even its purchase cost is slightly higher than its competitors. The key competitors of this tire include Nokian Hakkapeliitta R5, Hankook Winter i* Pike X (W429A), Nexen Winguard Sport 2, Continental WinterContact TS860 S, Pirelli Winter Sottozero3 and Falken Eurowinter HS01.

The original tread depth is 10/32. Worn out is 2/32. I am at 5/32 in 15,000 km of Canadian winter driving. My tire dealer says they wore out prematurely. Bridgestone says they should never be put on Subaru Forester. I have paid for two sets of expensive snowtires in one year. Not happy. Not good.
